Tips For Great Wedding Photographs If Professional Prices Are Too High
Nobody wants their wedding memories to fade. Wedding photography is very important, however hiring a professional is very expensive. Wedding photography prices can be as high as $5,000 and with this kind of expense you may have to consider alternatives. This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. I may just mean you have to be a little more creative.
Many people know a friend or relative who is a keen amateur photographer. In the first instance, you should consider people you know who have the minimum equipment including a quality camera and accessories. Many people will be only too happy to act as official photographer for the day and will do their best to fulfill the responsibility of capturing your memories.
It is important once you have agreed to work with your photographer that you meet and discuss your vision and expectations of the wedding photos. Please remember though, that this individual is really doing you a favour so treat them with respect and sensitivity and not as an employed professional. Ask your photographer for their ideas and input and work together on the process of planning the wedding day’s photo documentation.
Here are a few quick ideas that you can share with your photographer to get him or her started on the planning process.
If your wedding is being held indoors, select a scenic outdoor location in advance where you can stop after the ceremony and prior to the reception to get some photos in natural light, preferably with a park or flower garden background.
When taking photos at the reception, try getting candid photos at the tables and on the dance floor. Many amateur photographers alert the subjects and the results look far too stiff and posed. More interesting shots are natural photos of people having fun and interacting naturally.
To add further variety to your wedding photo album you should plan some photographs that are tiny vignettes of the action. These could be closeups of the bride’s hand signing the register, or the rings. Ask your photographer to be on the lookout for other opportunities of capturing memorable aspects of your wedding day that don’t necessarily involve a full view of a guest.
Some other simple ideas might included altering the normal eye level perspective by the photographer standing on a chair or kneeling and looking up.
You could also load a separate camera with black and white film or a different lens as many of these shots have a nice artistic appeal.
If necessary, when photographing the wedding cake, move it to a location free of background distractions.
You don’t have to prepare and plan lots of different locations to give your wedding photo album interest. The most important thing is that your photographer doesn’t simply stand in one spot and ask the guests to stand in front of the same backdrop. Simply turning around or shifting angles can be effective.
Asking a friend or family member to take you wedding photographs doesn’t mean you are missing out on quality. Often someone with a relationship to you can capture intimate details a stranger might miss.
Remember that at your wedding all your guests will be taking their own photographs. Don’t be afraid to ask them to send you digital copies of their best photos. Sometimes there are some amazing shots from ordinary situations your friends might not even plan. It isn’t necessary to have a professional at your wedding to take photographs if you can’t afford it.
