Selecting A Wedding Band
If you have been wondering how to choose a live band, then keep reading! If you are the event organizer for weddings, or other party such as birthday or graduation party, these days it is very important to select a band that provides live entertainment that appeals to a large cross section of guests attending the event.
Arranging a wedding or any other party is a difficult task as it includes arranging so many things at the same time. There are so many things that need to be organised. One of the most essential parts of this is of course the reception. It is very important that you entertain your guests properly and music is the perfect thing!
There are different ways to entertain guests but the two most common for party organisers is a typical DJ or a live wedding band. Live music can really help make your event that bit more special, but what things should you look out for before hiring a live band?
The first step in choosing a wedding party band is to ask some of your guests what they want! Many party organisers make the mistake of choosing a band that suits their own musical tastes rather than what the guests are going to enjoy.
An important thing that you should do when you are looking for a wedding band is to try to catch them performing. In general most bands typically have public gigs outside of private events so check with them on these so that you can try to take in a performance. Additionally, you may also want to ask them if they have a demo CD or preferably a video for you to take a look at. This will give you an idea of whether this band is a good fit for your wedding reception.
It is important to know the expertise of the music band before hiring them. You need to know how professional they are and how long they have been playing together as a band. Most bands have individual and group biographies on their website. This will give you an idea of the calibre of the party band as a whole.
As a first step to finding a wedding band surf the internet and look at different band websites. Each website usually provides you with photos, videos, and musical tracks. All of these things will help you to make a decision.
Also take a look at the testimonials from their previous clients. These are usually found on the band’s website. This will give you a good indication of how popular their performances are.
Look for a band whose music is going to a lot of different people. If you choose a band who plays for example progressive jazz or heavy rock music it will not appeal to many of the people who are likely to be at your wedding. Look at something like 70′s soul or disco as this music appeals to a greater range of people.
Negotiate a fair price with the band’s manager before agreeing to book them. Once you have done this ask for a written contract and pay the non refundable deposit to secure your date.
As the date of the event gets closer, call the band to confirm the last minute details. If you are concerned about what they will be wearing for example, then discuss this with them. Make sure they know what time they are expected to arrive.
Please bear in mind that the band is likely to have travelled a long way to your venue. It is expected that you provide them with a meal and drinks. Finally ensure they have a written timetable of events so they know exactly when they are expected to perform.
