Platinum Jewellery

In the present times, the jewellery trend is changing. No more are people interested in wearing jewellery made of gold. The reason behind the statement is that gold by now, has become a metal too common and people belonging to any class have enough sources to afford it. What really distinguishes a person belonging to middle class from the one of elite class is only platinum jewellery. Platinum jewellery reflects the quality of taste and class status of an individual.

In various shopping malls, you can frequently see young couples choosing the best styles and designs of platinum jewellery. Hardly, do they give a look to the gold jewellery because they truly consider it out of fashion. Platinum is a high quality metal which has much more in value than gold and can last for longer. The metal radiates a subtle shine as compared to gold and is easily available in its raw state.

Interesting it would be to know that it was some decades ago that Romans discovered platinum. At that time, platinum was not quite heard of and gold was the only metal ruling the hearts of jewellery lovers. When Roman started using platinum in their jewellery items, awareness was created among the people for pure platinum metal and soon, platinum made its way into the elite class.

Platinum, being an expensive metal than gold asks for more protection and care. While you are running or exercising at gym, try not to wear platinum because perspiration can cause the metal to damage and cut down its shine. Also make sure that you are not wearing any platinum jewellery while you are engaged in an outdoor sport. This is because platinum gets scratches as opposed to gold and this may lead to the poor physical appearance of your high quality jewellery.

Those who really want to have platinum jewellery but cannot afford it; try to settle for white gold jewellery. White gold is much similar in appearance to platinum but do not let your eyes get fooled into it. Platinum comes with a natural shine whereas the shine of white gold appears to be somewhat artificial because it is given a layering of rhodium. Also remember that platinum weighs more than white gold.

There are two general tests which you can carry on white gold and platinum to make a distinction. In test one, you need to put scratches on platinum and white gold with equal amount of force, the one which gets more scratches is white gold and the other is obviously platinum. Another test is done by heating the metals to an equal temperature for sometime; upon cooling, if the metal remains unaffected, it is platinum and if the colour of the metal turns into a dirty form, then it is white gold.
