Not Your Regular Wedding Cake

After being to a few friends’ weddings you start to see that everyone does things a little differently. Some things you may like about them others you would never consider for your own, but the point is that everyone can express themselves in their own way at their wedding. One of the best ways to do this is at your wedding reception. The reception can be as formal or informal as you make it and trying some new things can make the whole experience fun and memorable. One specific part of the reception that you can definitely experiment with is the cake.

1) Individual cakes at tables

If you choose to ditch the idea of a traditional wedding cake, but still aren’t ready to say goodbye to cake all the way, then choose to have a bunch of smaller cakes. Using a cake as the centerpiece of each table will not only provide dessert but also decoration. This cake can be small, just enough for the number of guests at the table, and not as elaborately decorated as one would be if you had just one large cake. The benefit of this idea is that you never have to make too many tough choices when choosing a cake. You can have multiple flavors of both the cake and the filling and also have a variety of decorating done to them. Guests are going to love looking at all the different cakes, cutting into theirs to discover the flavor, and trading with a neighboring table to taste all the variety.

2) Serve Yourself Candy Bar

Another great option, which is not actually cake at all, is to have a candy bar. This could be one large table or a couple smaller stations around the room. The best part of the candy bar is that it provides both decoration to the room and entertainment for the guests. A special part of this idea is that it can be very personalized to the bride and groom. The guests will love if all the candy is chosen favorites of the bride and groom.

This works best if there is a chosen color scheme that ties in with the wedding colors. Also, all the candy should be displayed in different sized vases and dishes. Placing boxes of different levels on the table first and then covering it with your table cloth with let you display all the dishes on different levels and give the table a lot of dimension. Ask the reception hall to place the table at a well lit area of the room where they can use shadowing and reflection to help decorate the table.
