How to Pick Your Wedding Photographer

This is it, you are planning your Big Day. The time has come to make plans and preparations for one of the biggest events of your life. Now don’t you want to document every minute of it so you can save the memories and cherish them forever? To do that you must have a photographer; now how do you pick the perfect photographer for you? Here are some tips to picking the right photographer for your wedding.

Of course one of the firsts things you do is look at samples of the photographer’s work. Most photographers now a days will have a website that showcases their work, tells you a little about themselves, and even tells you their prices. Now it is important to know that some companies have more than one photographer. Make sure you are looking at the work of your wedding photographer. This way you don’t end up with an intern or a new employee.

Talk with your photographer, it is of upmost importance. If your photographer has an assistant make sure to talk to them too. Be sure to get a photgrapher who will help make your vision come true, not just their opinion; remember it your opinion that matters. A good photographer will make suggestions, and allow you to have your input at the same time. Don’t let your photographer run the show, this is your day and you are the boss; you hired them after all. Make sure you ask questions about how the photographer runs things, and what their rules are, before you decide on a photographer.

Many photographers, and other service providers as well, will make a lot of money off of charging you over time. You need to ask exactly how much time you have your photographer for, and you need to see how much it will cost if you go over. This is a big factor when deciding your photographer.

Make sure you find out exactly what you’re package comes with. You need to know what you are paying for. Make sure you find a company that has easy to understand packages with no surprises. Be sure to compare prices, and to ask as many questions as needed to make you feel comfortable.

You need a contract. Point blank. You need a blank copy, read it well, and you can even compare it with contracts from other companies. Find out how long it will take to receive the finished product after the wedding. You can ask what equipment they use but there is little point in that unless you know a great deal about cameras. All that is really needed is to look at their previous work and decide if you like it.

Another thing to think about is whether or not you want to hire a videographer. This probably should be done before hiring a photographer. If you plan on having “Uncle Bob” video your wedding, you may not like the outcome. Many people do not realize that there are many local wedding videographers that can produce wedding videos that look like the movies. The sound will be better, and you will have better quality. This may surprise you; a videographer usually costs less than a photographer. So if you plan on having a videographer, you need to adjust your photography budget.
