Five Tips To Save Money On Your Perfect Wedding Dress
When it comes to planning a wedding, saving money on the wedding dress is one of the more interesting items on the budget saving list. That is because wedding costs can easily be marked up due to the emotion brides tie in to their weddings. If a bride is able to step back and take a more rational approach to her wedding planning, she will tend to do a better job staying on her budget
The wedding gown is probably one of the harder things to stay business-like about since after all this is what many of us have dreamed about! When women dream about their future wedding, often it’s always an image being in a dress with the handsome man they love that sticks out.
So do your best to stay rational, and you will definitely find your elegant perfect dress. And you don’t have to compromise your budget either!
So here are my tips for getting that perfect dress!
1) Go shopping off-season
This would be November-December time frame. This also happens to be when the bridal business slows down so you will find lower prices and/or more flexibility
2) Purchase your dress accessories separately
For convenience you can get your accessories at the bridal store where you get your dress, but the convenience also means a healthy markup. For purchasing accessories, other stores like craft stores or eBay or Amazon would be great for this. You could get an inexpensive veil, gloves, tiara, jewelry, etc. at other locations other than the bridal store.
3) Favor simplicity over extravagant
As time moves forward, women have started to become more bold and creative in the design of their wedding. Whether by necessity of a smaller budget or just personal preference, it is not surprising these days to see classical touches to weddings be replaced by something less expensive and still as personal and elegant. Cupcake wedding cakes, non-floral centerpieces, and sometimes a sheer and beautiful but not classical looking gown. The good news: these modern day fashions can cost you as little as $200 or even less.
4) You can widen your search by not looking for an exact fit
If you do end up buying a dress which is the “perfect size”, it will still need to be altered anyway. So keep that in mind because you may find an even better gown which is less expensive and only slightly off in size. Consult your tailor or seamstress first as far as costs for different types of alterations and you may find that alterations may be less expensive.
5) Look at eBay and Amazon!!
I had already mentioned using eBay and Amazon for accessories. But you can also check it out for dresses! I had just searched eBay and Amazon and found quite a few vendors with dresses for less than $200. When you shop on eBay, it is buyer beware so make sure to look for a reputable seller with high feedback ratings. If you can afford it, you can also use PayPal for payment which is buyer friendly. Many really nice new and used pieces are for sale or auction on eBay for not a high price.
Erica Yoon in her book “Amazing Wedding Planning” has an entire section of her book dedicated to dresses and claims that you can utilize the resources in her book to find a dress on eBay for $50. Check the link on my website for her book and check it out.
If you shop on Amazon, you need only do a search on wedding dresses (or use my link in the resource box) to find some great deals. And all the vendors are Amazon approved.
Good luck and happy hunting!
